YouTube – Bill Gates & Jerry Seinfeld – Microsoft Commercial

For those of you who haven’t seen it, this is the latest and greatest “genius” marketing idea from Microsoft. Apparently there was a bit of build-up to the release of this commercial, and I think the general consensus is “What the…?!”

Granted these two sites are pretty bias (yes, they’re strictly Mac sites), I think their responses are pretty funny.

First… MacUser.com’s

When we first heard that Microsoft was prepping an ad campaign starring Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld I was cautiously optimistic.

The first ad has hit TV screens across the nation and… I don’t think I even have words for it.

Second… MacWorld’s

Finished watching? Managed to un-boogle your mind yet? Yeah, I’m still a little hazy myself. But here’s the message(s) I think the ad was trying to convey.

  • Not satisfied with its software, services, and hardware offerings, Microsoft is apparently getting into the shoe business.
  • Microsoft will never, ever sell churros.
  • Computers that are “moist and chewy like cakes so we could just eat them while we were working” now replaces the “lickable” Aqua interface as the most unfortunate food-related computing metaphor ever.
  • If Jerry Seinfeld approaches you in a mall, for God’s sake, avoid making eye contact.

Way to go Microsoft… not. Maybe the next few commercials will make up for it?
